Southern Hospice Group Chair of Trustees Mike Rymer has taken the difficult decision to step down from his role with immediate effect, due to an unexpected health condition.
We would like to thank Mike for everything he has done for the hospices since he joined the Board in 2010. He has dedicated an incredible number of hours of his time, and his leadership, stewardship and expertise have been invaluable in ensuring not only the safe and effective running of the hospices, but the growth in profile and scope of our services. Initially, Mike was a Board trustee at St Barnabas Hospices for 9 years before stepping into the role of Chair in 2021, after a brief break. Mike has navigated us through the complexities of the pandemic, ongoing funding and sustainability challenges, before overseeing the merger and becoming Chair of Trustees for Southern Hospice Group.
Group Chief Executive, Stuart Palma, says:
“Mike’s commitment and contribution have been significant throughout his tenure. He has been a trusted and constant presence for the hospices during some very challenging times.
“I would personally like to thank Mike for his guidance, counsel and support, since I started as a Trustee in 2019, and becoming Chief Executive in April”, Stuart adds.
Mike’s regular presence at the hospices and attendance at hospice events – going above and beyond to lend his support – means that he will be a familiar face to many in our community: patients, families and supporters alike. We hope you will join us in thanking him and wishing him and his family well.
Ruth Taylor will step into the Chair role on an interim basis while recruitment for a permanent replacement takes place over the coming months.
