Southern Hospice Group’s response to government’s further £25m investment for hospices across the UK

Health and Social Care Minister Stephen Kinnock has confirmed that the government will provide an additional £25 million to the capital funding scheme for adult and children’s hospices in the 2026 financial year.

The money, which is a dedicated fund for capital projects, such as building improvements or upgrades to IT systems, follows the 2024 and 2025 grants which saw hospices across the UK receive £100m, also for capital expenditure.

It is encouraging that the government continues to see value in investing in the hospice sector, and this, combined with planning for the Modern Service Framework for Palliative and End of Life Care, leaves us hopeful that a sustainable funding model may emerge, enabling us to continue to be here for patients and families in the long-term.

Southern Hospice Group has applied for a portion of this additional funding, and we expect to hear in the coming days if this has been successful.
