I would recommend volunteering to anybody. It’s good fun; there’s always interesting donations to sort through and the people are great.

I retired in 2010 and found that I had some time to fill, I started to volunteer at the hospices, and I haven’t looked back since!

It’s all about creating happiness for the children and for their families. Everyone is always smiling and it’s just a really nice place to be.

Martlets needs to raise millions of pounds a year in community fundraising to keep going as the charity is only funded in part by the government. Please consider helping out as Martlets is for the local community and it might be you and your family that needs their support one day too.

We have a great team, and we all work extremely well together. I feel very proud to work for Martlets.

For me, it’s a phenomenal privilege to be able to walk alongside people in their most profoundly moving and personal moments. It can be difficult: you get to really know and love people as you journey with them.

St Barnabas made a role for me to fit into so that made me feel very valued. Since then, I’ve done loads of different roles here so it’s a really good place to progress your career.

You have to be energetic and enthusiastic to do this job, and I think you must be quite childlike in your quest for fun.
